Friday Links!

By tgetman

So Talkin_Proud is on vacation and he expects me to write every single post this week? It would not be a big deal but, shit man, this has been a really busy week at work. That, in addition to a pennant race that no one here wants to read about resulted in me not posting until 11:45 on Thursday night. On the bright side, it appears that only 58 people noticed. It is a amazing how not updating your blog for one stinkin’ day negatively affects your hits. Anyway, onto the latest edition of Friday Links.

  • This just in- it is cool to get pregnant (please don’t tell my girlfriend) (Also, I am not a teenager, nor is Mary Louise Parker but a funny link is a funny link)
  • Michael Phelps is pretty popular right now. Popular enough for even Young Jeezy to take notice.
  • Is Dave Anderychuk hall worthy? Methinks not.
  • Anyone want to drive me to NYC, Philly, or Toronto in November?
  • The Royals are too cheap to come through on their players request for sunglasses, no wonder they have been so bad for so long.
  • Okay, I never read comic books as a kid. I was far too busy memorizing the backs of baseball cards and playing hide and go seek with my invisible friend, so Bizzaro world is new to me. It is also, arguably the funniest place in the entire world.
  • Hahahah, Dudley…
  • Well mom, thanks a lot for the email this week making fun of me in chart form.
  • Kevin links us to the story of the Wilson baseball team making national news. Am I the only one who thinks it weird that a Wilson citizen was ready to take the media to the back of the bus? Thank goodness I am only a lowly blogger.
  • In the event that you don’t have any plans tonight, hip rock and roll combo Johnny Nobody will be playing at the canal concert series in Lockport, NY. They will be the second band on, with the headliner being Jeff Martin formerly of the Tea Party. In the event that you can’t make it out, tomorrow night, they will also be opening for local rocker Rodger Bryan for his cd release party at the Mohawk Place. Brad Riter, of WECK, is their facebook friend and has been invited. He is yet to confirm whether or not he will be in attendance. You know, in the event that you actually want to talk to someone who knows something about sports. As always, I will be the guy in the Minnesota Twins hat.
  • One last thing, while on the topic of the Twins, I will now be doing a weekly post for the World’s Greatest Online Magazine. Every Saturday I will be doing a write up on the Twins under “game logs”. While I am quite sure that none of you care about the Minnesota Twins, with this being Buffalo and all, I would love for you to come and check out some of the best game logs in the business.

Until tommorow, or Sunday, or lets be honest, probably Monday, take care and try to live by the creed of FTLT’s close personal friend, Andrew W. K.

***SATURDAY UPDATE****

A link that I pass on with great regret this week is that of fixbuffalo.  Today its author had this to day

After a month long hiatus and careful consideration, I’ve decided to stop blogging.

I’ve met some of the most amazing people here in Buffalo and there in the Buffalo diaspora, people who have left an indellible mark on me and my take on this City and the issues we face.  I will be forever grateful.

Buffalo remains a raw and in some ways a sexy place.  I’m fond of saying for every bus load of people that leave – fifty people/week – a car load of new arrivals appear on the scene.  If we continue to capture the right people – as we have – the City’s future will remain bright.  Some of the most amazing people, people who left twenty years ago, are returning.
I’ve had the pleasure of knowing a few and especially one photographer who now splits her time between Buffalo and New York.

Again, the past four years commenting, critiquing and sharing pics of the City’s east side has been nothing sort of amazing.  In some respects all the dialog and email with fixBuffalo readers has amounted to a grad program in urban studies.

Thank you for the comments and criticism.

This is one of Talkin_Prouds’s favorite sites and he will be tremendously disappointed upon his return to Buffalo this week.  Please stop by and poke your head around on FixBuffalo.  While it may not be updated anymore the commentary will not be forgotten by, at least these two writers, anytime soon.

It would probably be pushing it to see I care about the Twins really but I am pulling for them to make the postseason. Does that count?

  2. tgetman Says:

If that means that you are rooting against the Red/White Sox we are happy to have you on board.

  3. Heather B. Says:

I’m against Sox of all colors, yes.
